Delta's Origins
The variety of services Delta offers stems from a focus on fostering
independence through respect and dignity and providing personalized care.
President David Wyher sought to change the way people think about and treat
adults with developmental disabilities when he opened Delta in 1977, then
Community Interactions — Bucks County, Inc.
Prior to the 1970s, human services professionals focused on a person’s most
basic needs for food, clothing, and health maintenance. Delta Community
Supports offered a more comprehensive approach to care and a new attitude
toward human potential.
Delta welcomed 20 residents into its group homes in lower Bucks County, Pa.
in 1977, following the court-ordered closure of Pennhurst State School and
Hospital. Since then, Delta’s staff members have remained committed to helping
people with disabilities:
In 1980, David A. Wyher, founder of Delta Community Supports, Inc. in
Lower Gwynedd, Pa., agreed to bring Delta’s standards of person-centered supports to New Jersey,
incorporating Developmental Resources Corporation in Raritan, NJ. In 1986, DRC opened a Southern
New Jersey office in Hammonton, NJ, and in 2007 DRC and Delta Community Supports
were merged.
Today, nearly 800 employees serve help individuals and their families in Pennsylvania and
New Jersey to:
- Become part of the fabric of their communities through work, recreation, and volunteer opportunities.
- Realize their potentials in nurturing living and employment arrangements.
- Celebrate the successes of a positive, fulfilling existence.
As we strive to provide the highest quality support, we have adapted our services to meet
the changing needs of each individual. In addition, we measure our performance through an
evaluation system known as the Balanced Score Card to help us meet our standards of outstanding service.
